Clarena and Yolima from Paisa Coffee

Both Colombians, both entrepeneurs.

Thank you for being part of this journey

Our mission is simple: to deliver the finest women-grown specialty coffees to our customers and to effect positive social change at every point in our supply chain. Every one of our coffees has unique characteristics, each variety offers different taste characteristics, that when roasted to compliment and accentuate those flavors, bring out the best of each coffee.

The first event we officially attended as Clarena’s Coffee was the Specialty Coffee Expo. It is the largest coffee event in North America and this year took place in Boston from April 8th through the 10th. It was an excellent opportunity to see what’s new in the Coffee Industry. Since the Pandemic began, it has been one of the largest gatherings of specialty coffee professionals. It was a welcoming community full of passionate people!

According to the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), this year’s show attracted more than 10,000 attendees and 420 exhibiting companies. There were exhibitors from 40 countries; 20 were coffee-producing countries, and one of them was Costa Rica (Portrait Country of the Expo).

North America’s largest coffee trade show also hosted US Coffee Championships (World Barista Championship and World Brewers Cup, among others), offered more than 60 lectures and 30 workshops and courses from the SCA’s educational programs, covering a wide array of topics of interest to coffee professionals over the three days.

In addition to workshops and competitions, I had the opportunity to network with professionals from across the industry. Most importantly, I had the chance to meet with women Producers from all over the world.  It was a pleasure to meet Melissa Nunez from the Dominican Republic, Sofia Plocharski from Guatemala, Yolima Taborda from Paisa Coffee, Eivy from Finca Abarim, and many more women growers from all over the world.

I enjoyed sampling coffees from different regions at the Roaster Village, where I met some of the best roasters in the industry. But what delighted me the most were the Coffee Design Awards and the U.S. Coffee Championships.

The COFFEE DESIGN AWARDS was the most popular interactive exhibit. I explored some of the best designs in coffee today and learned the stories behind them.

The Coffee Design Award Winners were:

  • Branding Category: Colectivo Coffee⠀
  • Packaging Category: Roast Runner
  • Spaces Category: Tropicalia Coffee Co.

The Specialty Coffee Expo is ‘the place to go’ to learn about all things specialty coffee, meet incredible and passionate people, and to be taken by that energy and positivism.
